Project template for starting a DMADV project. Contains a project charter and a folder structure for all 5 phases of the DMADV cycle.

How to insert the component

The template can be used to start new projects or to extend existing projects. Please read chapter "The Templates" to learn more about how to start new projects.

In order to extend your project:

  1. 1
Activate the Home Ribbon Home Ribbon
  2. 2
Click the Add Tool button on the Home ribbon
  3. 3
Click the icon in the template catalog

In order to find the component within the template catalog, you have to choose a cycle name on the first line of the screen and a phase name at the left of the screen. The component is located in this cycle/phase combinations:

DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) best practice toolkit for innovation and robust design. 5-step version aligned with original Six Sigma approach.

    Roadmap

    • 1

      DEFINE

Develop a vision statement for a design project. Analyze risks and opportunities and define a strategy. Provide a clear definition of design project scope and objectives. Develop an implementation plan and allocate resources.

    • 2

      MEASURE

Define potential customers of the system or service to be designed. Develop a strategy to collect requirements. Cluster and prioritize requirements and develop a functional requirements specification, including clear and unambiguous design targets.

    • 3

      ANALYZE

Identify high-level functions of the system or service to be designed. For each function to be redesigned, compile a list of possible solutions. Create promising combinations of solutions and evaluate them against customer requirements. Repeat the process of identifying functions and listing and selecting solutions iteratively at the next lower level. Understand functional relationships within the development scope and develop concepts. Question: Is there a concept with the potential to meet customer requirements?

    • 4

      DESIGN

Create a robust design. Identify factors potentially impacting robustness. Identify and mitigate potential faults arising from those factors. Apply six Sigma methodology such as design of experiments or statistical tolerancing where appropriate to design a robust solution.

    • 5

      VERIFY

Transfer your design to a live process. Implement and test a robust (manufacturing or service) process. Assess and mitigate process risks, implement process management run trials at full operational capacity and speed. Demonstrate long-term capability and hand over the process to the process owner.
