About Morphological Box

The morphological box, or concept combination table, is used to list all possible solutions or concepts for each function. Solutions or concepts may range from commercial off-the-shelf solutions to entirely new concepts developed in brainstorming/creativity sessions. In a second step, promising combinations of concepts are identified.

A morphological box returns a list of alternative solutions that can be compared In a Pugh matrix .

Concept Combination Table (Morphological Box). Use to define combinations of solutions for individual functions. This worksheet shows the functions from FAST or QFD 2. Functions can also be edited here. Options entered for each function will appear as design elements in QFD 3, . on the Value Design Matrix, and in the BOM.

The morphological box component uses a special table to add one or more possible solutions to each product function. Different product concepts can be derived by combining these possible solutions.

Click into a cell and type the name of a design element that can implement the function described in this row. You can also use a drop-down selector to add an already existing design element as possible solution to this function

Each concept is represented by a line with a unique color, style, and symbol. Drag the symbol to a design element to select the implementation of a function for a specific concept. Use Insert Concept from the Home ribbon if you need more product concepts.

Click the name of a concept in the legend above the table to change it.
